Shock Absorber
Shock absorbers are used in front-load Whirlpool washing machines to dampen tub movement during the spin cycle. To access the shock absorbers, or struts, you’ll need to remove either the rear or front panels. Unbalanced loads can cause washers to shake or move, and shock absorbers that are weak or damaged will make the machine make a loud banging noise during spin cycles. 1. Before you start washing your clothes, unplug it.
2. Locate the shock absorbers. You will need to take the rear or front panel off depending on which model you have.
3. Inspect shock absorbers for broken attachments, weak dampening action or leaks.
4. Replacement shock absorbers are required if you have any of the above symptoms. Both shocks should be replaced at the same time.
Suspension Spring & Tub Spring
Your Whirlpool washing machine’s suspension springs are used to suspend or stabilize your tub assembly from the base. They absorb vibrations from the Whirlpool washing machine’s spin cycle and also absorb them. Sometimes, these springs can become bent, damaged or detached and cause excessive noise and vibration during the spin cycle. How to inspect the suspension spring of a Whirlpool washing machine
1. Before you start, disconnect the power supply.
2. To access the suspension springs, remove the front or top panel from the Whirlpool washing machine.
3. Check for damage or stretching and make sure they are secured at both ends. Take care when replacing springs that are already under tension. Always wear protective clothing. 4. Replacement suspension springs will be required if you notice any damage, stretching, wear. If you find any suspension springs that are defective, we recommend replacing them all at once. They wear at an approximately equal rate.
Snubber Ring & Damper Pad & Tube Wear Pads
A snubber rings is a feature that dampens the vibrations of Whirlpool washing machines during spin cycles. It is usually located at the bottom of your machine and acts as a cushion between the tub support assembly and the base. Tub wear pads and snubber rings are usually made of hard plastic. However, some damper pads can be made from lubricated felt. Each style will eventually wear out and allow the tub to move too much. They can also wear out to the point that the tub support contacts the base of the metal washer. In these cases, the washer may shake uncontrollably. - Remove the front panel from your washer machine by unplugging it.
- Find and inspect the snubber. To inspect the snubber, you will need to take out the tub springs.
- Look for white dust near or on the plastic style snubber. For the felt style, look out for dry or dislodged pads.
- You will need a replacement rubber ring if you experience any of the above symptoms.
Tub Dampening Strap
Top-load washers with tub dampening straps can be used to cushion the tub’s movement during spin cycles. The tub’s top and each corner of the cabinet are secured by four straps. These rubber straps can wear out with normal usage. If the straps are stretched or damaged, the tub can come in contact with the cabinet during spin. This will cause the washer to shake, move, and make a loud banging noise. Excessive use and large loads will cause strain to the straps and lead to premature failure. 1. Start by unplugging the washer. Next, open the cabinet to find the tub dampening straps.
2. Each strap will connect to the wash tub, and one corner of the cabinet. Inspect the tub dampening straps for any signs of wear, damage, fraying, or damage.

Leveling Leg
The washer’s leveling legs are used to support it. They can also be adjusted so that it can be leveled. 3. Start by making sure that all leveling feet are equal. Run a test cycle if you find that one or more of the leveling feet are not level. If the problem persists, check for signs of wear and damage to the feet, and make sure they are properly threaded.
